Since the time the University Teaching Assistantship (UTA) scheme (2006) was introduced, the Department of English has been appointing teaching assistants on a regular basis.  The UTAS are actively involved in the academic life of the department and assist the members of the various committees such as the Seminar Committee, Library Committee, Visiting Fellow Committee etc and facilitate the smooth conduct of academic events of the department.  They are also, from time to time,  expected to hold students’ tutorials at the master’s level and assist in evaluation of student assessment etc.

Every year as many as 10 assistantships are available at the Department on the basis of the following eligibility criteria:

Candidates (general and reserved categories) who have obtained their Master’s degree in the current year and the previous year and have scored more than 55% marks in the Post-Graduate as well as Under-graduate examinations will be eligible.  Only those candidates who are in the top 30% of the successful candidates of each academic session will be eligible to be considered for the UTA scheme.

Some positions may also be available to the candidates from Universities outside the University of Delhi.  Eligible candidates are encouraged to apply by  the deadline set by the University from time to time. Interested candidates are required to apply for these assistantships with details of their percentage, rank etc. to the office of the Department.  However, they are  required to provisionally  register as Ph.D. scholars before  the end of March the  following year.
